Softball Recap: Mohawk Triumphs

Mohawk and Wynford pushed the score to 22-0 the last time they played Wynford, but on Monday defenses reigned supreme. The Warriors narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Royals 3-1. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Royals recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Aubrey Gottfried spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Mohawk secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Emily Brickner, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Mohawk's win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Wynford, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Coming up, Mohawk will square off against Ada at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 1.9, the Bulldogs 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Wynford will be paying especially close attention to Mohawk's game: after Mohawk faces off against Ada, they'll take on Wynford again at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
