Basketball Game Preview: Roane County Yellowjackets vs. McMinn Central Chargers

The Roane County Yellowjackets will face off against the McMinn Central Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Roane County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 15 matchups -- so hopefully McMinn Central likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, everything went Roane County's way against Lenoir City as Roane County made off with a 77-54 win. The Yellowjackets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 21 points or more this season.

Roane County relied on the efforts of Aaron Layne, who went 9 for 13 on his way to 22 points, and Aiden O'Leary, who went 5 of 9 en route to 16 points along with seven assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Herrell, who posted eight points and ten rebounds.

Roane County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, McMinn Central came up short against Farragut on Tuesday and fell 78-66. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while the Admirals are ranked 55th).

Roane County pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.2 points per game. As for McMinn Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.

Roane County was able to grind out a solid win over McMinn Central in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 82-70. Does Roane County have another victory up their sleeve, or will McMinn Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
