Baseball Recap: St. Joseph Notre Dame Finds Playoff Glory Versus San Lorenzo

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Joseph Notre Dame had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the San Lorenzo Grizzlies as they made off with a 12-2 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Pilots needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Tristan Gutierrez and Didier 'Didi' Gutierrez-Barajas dominated on the mound. Gutierrez pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Gutierrez-Barajas tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gutierrez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Robbie Fintland was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of St. Joseph Notre Dame's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 9-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Dawson Stewart, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

St. Joseph Notre Dame was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

St. Joseph Notre Dame is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for San Lorenzo, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-10.
