Basketball Recap: Fort Chiswell's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak on the Road

After flying high against Rural Retreat last Friday, Fort Chiswell came back down to earth. The Fort Chiswell Pioneers fell 76-66 to the Carroll County Cavaliers on Friday. The contest marked the Pioneers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Fort Chiswell saw an underclassman step up: freshman Owen Jackson went 9 of 20 on his way to 26 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Armbrister, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points.

Fort Chiswell's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-2. As for Carroll County, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Fort Chiswell will be taking part in a tournament against Narrows on Friday. Fort Chiswell knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Narrows likes a good challenge. As for Carroll County, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Cave Spring at 1:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
