Soccer Game Preview: Sunnyvale vs. Gainesville

Sunnyvale will face off against the Gainesville Leopards at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sunnyvale is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

While Sunnyvale's victory against Caddo Mills wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Sunnyvale had just enough and edged out Caddo Mills 2-1. Given Sunnyvale's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Caddo Mills is ranked 300th), the result last Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Victoria Morales was the driving force of Sunnyvale's attack as she scored both of Sunnyvale's goals, bringing her season total up to 36 goals.

Meanwhile, for the first time since back in January, Gainesville was forced to settle for a draw on Friday. They and Paris finished up on equal footing with a 2-2 draw.

Sunnyvale's win bumped their record up to 14-2. With that draw, Gainesville's record moves to 10-7-3.

Sunnyvale took their victory against Gainesville in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 5-2. Will Sunnyvale repeat their success, or does Gainesville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
