Basketball Recap: Dewey Comes Up Short

Dewey lost against East New York Family Academy back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Dewey took a blow against East New York Family Academy, falling 78-30. While losing is never fun, Dewey can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 564th, while East New York Family Academy is ranked 70th).

East New York Family Academy had a senior duo take command as Arianna Mercado went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points along with seven steals and six assists and Michel'Le Little dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mercado has scored at least a third of East New York Family Academy's points. Sia Hodges was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Dewey and nudges their season record down to 2-9. As for East New York Family Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dewey will face off against Brooklyn Technical at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. As for East New York Family Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Midwood at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. East New York Family Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.4 points per game this season.
