Softball Recap: Elkhart Starts off Right with Win over Fairfield

Elkhart gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Fairfield Falcons by a score of 4-1. The Lions have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Falcons, too.

Laci Stimac made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ava Walker was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Gabby Wagner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Coming up, Elkhart will be playing at home against Mishawaka at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Fairfield, they will take on Bremen at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
