League recap: Belleville West scores huge upset over East

The biggest upset of the week belonged to East, who took down 47th ranked East, 38-6. Sherand Boyd threw for 173 yards and three touchdowns and ran for eight yards in the win.

O'Fallon extended the longest winning streak in Southwestern this week by beating Granite City, 35-12. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

Darius Mosely was the best wideout in the league this week as O'Fallon defeated the Warriors. Mosely tallied six receptions for 135 yards. Patrick Riley helped O'Fallon's passing attack out by catching two balls for 40 yards.

Kentrail Moran was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 171 yards as Brandon Joggerst's team topped Granite City. Todd Porter also contributed to the rushing game with 25 yards on the ground.

The Panthers' Porter and Mosely have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Southwestern in both passing and receiving yards. Porter has thrown for 1137 yards this season, while Mosely, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 24 catches for 496 yards. Brian Hill from Belleville West leads the league in rushing with 329 yards.

Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when O'Fallon and East St. Louis meet this week. The Panthers features well-regarded senior Mosely while the Flyers has Natereace Strong, a sought after sophomore.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Edwardsville takes on the Maroons. The Tigers are in second place, while Belleville West is in third place.

East St. Louis was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, Darren Sunkett's team triumphed over Collinsville 44-7.
