Baseball Recap: Genoa Area Takes a Loss

Genoa Area had lost five straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-10 to make it six. They fell 6-1 to the Oak Harbor Rockets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rockets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-5 back in April.

As for Oak Harbor, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.

For Oak Harbor's part, Nolan Bickelhaupt tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Bickelhaupt has posted since back in April.

At the plate, Brayden Butzin and Cooper Schultz did most of the damage at the plate: Butzin went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Schultz got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael LaLonde, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

While Genoa Area had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
