Softball Recap: Bloomington South Gets the Win

Bloomington South posted their closest win since April 23rd on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the North Daviess Cougars 5-3. This was payback for the Panthers, who suffered a 3-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Rachel Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sloane Barrett, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Carly Reed, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Bloomington South is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for North Daviess, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Bloomington South will challenge Bedford North Lawrence at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for North Daviess, they will take on Owen Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
