Softball Recap: Orangewood Christian Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

Orangewood Christian's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lake Highland Prep Highlanders an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Rams have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Mai TellezMartinez made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Orangewood Christian let Reagan Watkins and Kaleigh Langmo run wild. Watkins went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles, while Langmo scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Watkins has posted since back in February. Caroline Putt was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Orangewood Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Orangewood Christian has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Lake Highland Prep, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-11.

Orangewood Christian and Lake Highland Prep could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Rams (ranked 295th) will meet Geneva (ranked 99th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Lake Highland Prep will square off against Cardinal Mooney at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (449 vs. 221).
