Basketball Recap: Iredell's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Iredell needed a changed in momentum after dropping three straight games and they got it from Gavin Vara. The Dragons narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Jonesboro Eagles 56-54 with plenty of help from Vara, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 28 points and seven steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Iredell's points.

Another player making a difference was Aaron Aguilar-Diaz, who posted eight points and five boards. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 47.4% field goal percentage.

Iredell's win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Iredell has already played their next contest, a 47-37 victory against Kopperl on the 4th. As for Jonesboro, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Meridian at 6:00 p.m. on the 16th.
