Basketball Game Preview: Middleburg Broncos vs. Fleming Island Golden Eagles

Middleburg hasn't had much luck against Fleming Island recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Middleburg Broncos will challenge the Fleming Island Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Middleburg is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 71-54 victory over Ridgeview.

Meanwhile, Fleming Island waltzed into their match on Friday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They took down the Bobcats 68-49. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Bobcats are ranked 151st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Middleburg's win bumped their record up to 10-15. As for Fleming Island, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-5.

Middleburg took a serious blow against Fleming Island in their previous matchup back in January of 2020, falling 57-30. Thankfully for Middleburg, Sebastian Astor (who went 8 for 15 on his way to 23 points along with five assists and five boards) won't be suiting up this time.
