Basketball Recap: Whitewater Comes Up Short

Whitewater won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 70-33 loss at the hands of the Sandy Creek Patriots. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Whitewater lost, don't look at Allan Mangual. Despite the final result, he posted four points and 13 rebounds. Mangual is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least 12 every time he's taken the court this season. Case Roberts was another key player, putting up five points.

Even though they lost, Whitewater smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 21 consecutive contests.

Whitewater's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Sandy Creek, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Whitewater didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 81-71 loss against Fayette County on the 28th. Sandy Creek has also already played their next game, a 79-43 win against Trinity Christian on the 28th.
