Softball Game Preview: Riverton Hawks vs. Springfield Senators

The Riverton Hawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Springfield Senators at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Riverton is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

Riverton played against Argenta-Oreana on Thursday and lost via forfeit.

Springfield came out on top against Pleasant Plains on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Senators put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 7-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Senators in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won three in a row.

Mia Volpert made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Volpert was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Volpert wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emma Marcum, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Springfield's record now sits at 16-5. As for Riverton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-21.

Riverton might still be hurting after the 16-3 loss they got from Springfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2021. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
