Softball Game Preview: Rochelle Hubs vs. Ottawa Pirates

Rochelle is 0-10 against Ottawa since May of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Hubs will take on the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. Rochelle will be strutting in after a win while Ottawa will be coming in after a loss.

On Tuesday, Rochelle needed a bit of extra time to put away Forreston. They had just enough and edged out the Cardinals 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hubs have posted since May 11, 2024.

Lauren Dyer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

Dyer wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cheyenne Somers, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Audrina Rodriguez, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Ottawa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Sycamore.

Ottawa's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Rochelle, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-18.

Rochelle couldn't quite finish off Ottawa when the teams last played back in April and fell 7-5. Can the Hubs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
