Softball Game Preview: Boone County Rebels vs. Highlands Bluebirds

The Boone County Rebels will take on the Highlands Bluebirds at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Boone County has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with four straight losses, while Highlands will come in with 11 straight wins.

Boone County lost 17-7 to Conner on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Rebels have lost by exactly ten runs.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Highlands ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Cooper.

Kaitlyn Dixon spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Payton Brown, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Morgan Pompilio, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

Highlands hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cooper struck out eight times.

Highlands' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-5-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Boone County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-16.
