Football Recap: Calvary Christian Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Calvary Christian couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 34-33 to the Cocoa Tigers. The Warriors gained 161 more yards on the day, but it was the Tigers that made the best use of them.

Despite the loss, Calvary Christian still got an impressive performance from Lane Roberts, who rushed for 190 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Roberts' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 123 rushing yards. Oni Abasial was another key player, throwing for 200 yards and three TDs.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cocoa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Champ Smith, who threw for 225 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Calvary Christian's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Cocoa, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Calvary Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cocoa, they will square off against Bradford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tornadoes' defense has only allowed 6.4 points per game this season, so the Tigers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
