Softball Game Preview: Fairfield Lions vs. Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington Blue Jays

Fairfield has gone a perfect 7-0 against Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Lions will head out to challenge the Blue Jays at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fairfield has four straight wins, Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Fairfield's victory against Eastern wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Warriors 2-1 on Thursday.

Rilee Quickle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Fairfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ally Maynard, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington's offense. They came up short against Manchester on Monday, falling 12-0.

Fairfield pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Fairfield took their win against Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington in their previous meeting on Tuesday by a conclusive 14-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
