Basketball Game Preview: Cayuga Wildcats vs. Martins Mill Mustangs

Cayuga hasn't had much luck against Martins Mill recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cayuga Wildcats will face off against the Martins Mill Mustangs at 6:45 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It was a proper cat-fight when Cayuga challenged Alba-Golden on Tuesday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, Cayuga made off with a 37-36 victory over Alba-Golden. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Martins Mill had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They breezed by the Indians to the tune of 67-35. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Indians are ranked 513th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Martins Mill's victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.9 points per game. As for Cayuga, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 17-10.

Cayuga was taken down by Martins Mill 62-12 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cayuga was down 33-2.
