Softball Recap: Enochs Drops Season-High Score on Modesto

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Enochs). They put the hurt on the Modesto Panthers with a sharp 21-5 win on Thursday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Soraya Mendoza was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Makayla Alailima was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Lillian Camarena was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Enochs kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Enochs pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Modesto, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Enochs has already played their next match, a 10-0 victory against Pitman on the 8th. As for Modesto, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-1 win against Downey on the 8th.
