Basketball Recap: Lakewood Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Lakewood challenged Arvada West on Saturday. The Lakewood Tigers were dealt a 65-23 loss at the hands of the Arvada West Wildcats. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost eight in a row.

Despite the loss, Lakewood saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Iben Last posted 13 points and five blocks. Last has become a key player for Lakewood: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least three blocks, but 3-13 otherwise.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Arvada West to victory, but perhaps none more so than Avery Harrison, who went 6 for 13 to rack up 12 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Julianna Wandler, who put up ten points.

Lakewood's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Arvada West, their win bumped their record up to 16-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakewood will take on Chatfield at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Arvada West, they will face off against Bear Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Arvada West is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.
