Basketball Recap: Lilly Hodge's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Providence Prep over Grace Academy

If Providence Prep was feeling good fresh off their 60-8 takedown of Methodist Children's Home last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Providence Prep Rams took a 40-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grace Academy on Tuesday. The Rams have struggled against Grace Academy recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Providence Prep lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Lilly Hodge, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Gaidusek, who scored three points along with five boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Providence Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.

Reagan Johnson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds for Grace Academy. Johnson's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Ella Carleton, who earned six points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Providence Prep's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Grace Academy, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6.

Looking ahead, Providence Prep will host Holy Trinity Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Providence Prep's defense has only allowed 27.9 points per game this season, so Holy Trinity Catholic's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Grace Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Granger at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Granger will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Grace Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
