Baseball Game Preview: Tussey Mountain Titans vs. Mercyhurst Prep Lakers

The Tussey Mountain Titans will challenge the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Tussey Mountain comes in on four and Mercyhurst Prep on 12.

Tussey Mountain is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 7-6.

The team relied heavily on Connor Jones, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Tussey Mountain: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-10 otherwise.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Mercyhurst Prep sidestepped Riverview for a 5-3 victory.

Hunter Krahe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mercyhurst Prep's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Spencer, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Rocco Almonte was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Mercyhurst Prep's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Tussey Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 14-10.
