Softball Recap: Goshen Central Drops Season-High Score on Monticello

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Goshen Central). They never let the Monticello Panthers get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Gladiators sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Addison Freiberger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Goshen Central got a massive performance out of Sophia Springer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Springer is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Marley Northrup also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Goshen Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

Goshen Central's record now sits at 8-2. As for Monticello, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Goshen Central will take on rival Valley Central at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Gladiators 3.6, the Vikings 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Monticello is set to square off against their familiar foe Warwick at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
