Baseball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

Liberty has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 4.05 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They lost 15-4 to the New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly Vipers. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Vipers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Jack Sparrow made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Liberty: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Jackson Sims also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Liberty's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty will face off against Routt Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly, they will square off against Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Vipers are facing the Railsplitters at the right time seeing as the Railsplitters are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
