Baseball Recap: Breathitt County Takes a Loss

Breathitt County extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 8-9 in the process. They came up short against the Tates Creek Commodores, falling 6-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Bobcats were not able to get on the board.

Breathitt County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sebastian Howard, who went 3-for-4 with one double.

As for Tates Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games.

On Tates Creek's side, Carter Gilliam looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Gilliam has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Cooper Jackson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and two runs. He has become a key player for Tates Creek: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Carter, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Breathitt County will look to defend their home field on Monday against Wolfe County at 6:00 p.m. As for Tates Creek, they will head out on the road to challenge Bryan Station at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
