Basketball Game Preview: Currituck County Knights vs. Gates County Red Barons + How To Watch

The Currituck County Knights will head out on the road to challenge the Gates County Red Barons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Currituck County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Gates County likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Currituck County lost to South Central on the road by a 84-70 margin. The matchup marked the Knights' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Currituck County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Tristan Peterson, who shot 54% from the field to rack up 23 points in addition to seven boards and three steals, and Jamie Dance, who posted 18 points. Dance has been hot for a while, having posted 17 or more points the last 18 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Holden Pickering, who had four points along with four blocks and three steals.

Meanwhile, Gates County hadn't done well against Hertford County recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Red Barons walked away with a 57-48 victory over the Bears. The win was some much needed relief for the Red Barons as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Currituck County better keep an eye on Deshawn Sherman. He was instrumental in Gates County's win, putting up 18 points. Those 18 points gave Sherman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Noah Smith, who earned 12 points and six rebounds.

Currituck County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Gates County, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.

Currituck County strolled past Gates County in their previous matchup back in December of 2019 by a score of 52-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
