Preview: Newark Yellowjackets vs. Delaware Military Academy Seahawks
Newark is 0-5 against Delaware Military Academy since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Newark Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Delaware Military Academy Seahawks at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Delaware (Newark is ranked 28th, while Delaware Military Academy is ranked 19th).
Last Saturday, Newark had to suffer through a rough 49-8 loss at the hands of Caravel. Newark has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Delaware Military Academy over Concord in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Delaware Military Academy blew Concord out of the water with a 46-6 final score. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Delaware Military Academy had established a 36 point advantage.
Delaware Military Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Odell Teel out in front who rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 41 yards and a touchdown on only three passes. Another player making a difference was Saalem Frink, who rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Caravel's victory bumped their season record to 7-0 while Newark's defeat dropped theirs to 3-4.
Newark took a serious blow against Delaware Military Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 35-6. Can Newark avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
