Basketball Recap: Pittsburg Takes a Loss

Pittsburg lost against Blue Valley Southwest back in March of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Pittsburg Dragons took a 55-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Valley Southwest Timberwolves. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while the Timberwolves are ranked 43rd).

Blue Valley Southwest got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Olivia Payne out in front who went 6 for 7 on her way to 18 points. The dominant performance also gave Payne a new career-high in field goal percentage (86%). Another player making a difference was Kylie Cross, who posted nine points in addition to eight assists and four steals.

Pittsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Blue Valley Southwest, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Pittsburg has already played their next contest (against Independence), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Blue Valley Southwest, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Blue Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Blue Valley Southwest is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season.
