Baseball Recap: Wray Takes a Loss

Caliche hit Wray with a four-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles fell just short of the Buffaloes by a score of 6-5. The Eagles just can't catch a break and have now endured five losses in a row.

Gabe Kechter put in work no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Broderick Kite and Saul Mattox stepped up to the plate in a big way. Kite went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Mattox went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Brodie Riggleman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Wray's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Caliche, their victory bumped their record up to 7-11.

Wray didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-0 loss against Wiggins on the 26th. As for Caliche, they will square off against Sedgwick County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.53 runs per game on average), something the Buffaloes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
