Soccer Recap: Van Nuys Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Van Nuys kept a clean sheet against Canyon on Thursday. They walked away with a 2-0 win over the Canyon Cowboys. Given Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 297th, while the Cowboys are ranked 923rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

David Nalbandyan and Dylan Villavicencio scored both of Van Nuys' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 12 goals.

Van Nuys has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-1-1 record this season. As for Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Van Nuys will be taking part in a tournament against Channel Islands at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Van Nuys is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 4.7 goals per game this season. As for Canyon, they will take on San Fernando in a tournament on Friday.
