Softball Recap: Five Straight Road Victories for Venture Academy

Venture Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Aspire Langston Hughes Academy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Titans on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Savanah Espinoza made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Tiffany Bruss was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Natalie Padilla, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

Venture Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Venture Academy's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Aspire Langston Hughes Academy, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Venture Academy will face off against rival Millennium at 4:00 p.m. on the 21st. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 3.8, the Falcons 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Aspire Langston Hughes Academy is set to take on their familiar foe Ben Holt College Prep Academy at 5:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
