Baseball Game Preview: Huntland Hornets vs. Culleoka Warriors

The Huntland Hornets will challenge the Culleoka Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Huntland has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Eagleville hit Huntland with a four-run fifth inning last Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets came up short against the Eagles, falling 12-2. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Huntland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grant Jernigan, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Culleoka, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They skirted past Hampshire 5-3.

Coltin Butler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. He is becoming a predictor of Culleoka's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 4-12 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gabe Leonard, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Mason Pearce was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.

Culleoka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Culleoka's win bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Huntland, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.
