Baseball Game Preview: Leesville Road Pride vs. Willow Spring Storm

The Leesville Road Pride will face off against the Willow Spring Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Leesville Road has five straight victories, Willow Spring has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Leesville Road beats Willow Spring with six runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Pride came out on top against Athens Drive by a score of 6-2 on Thursday.

Avery Morton looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Leesville Road's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Wyss, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. Those three hits gave Wyss a new career-high. Another was Ben Fields, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Willow Spring fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Apex Friendship on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 3-2 to the Patriots, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Willow Spring's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Leesville Road, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.
