Preview: Cummings Cavaliers vs. Seaforth Hawks
Cummings has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Seaforth Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Cummings' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, a fact Cummings proved on Wednesday. They took down North Moore 65-50. Given Cummings' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while North Moore is ranked 542nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cummings can attribute much of their success to Ja'Kway Robertson, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds, and Ja'Kari Dobbins, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dobbins has scored all season. Kobie Stadler was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Seaforth ended up a good deal behind Southeast Alamance on Thursday and lost 70-52.
Cummings' victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Seaforth, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
Cummings came out on top in a nail-biter against Seaforth when the teams last played back in December of 2023, sneaking past 67-64. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cummings since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
