Basketball Game Preview: Marshall Christian Academy Guardians vs. East Texas Homeschool Sports Chargers

The Marshall Christian Academy Guardians will challenge the East Texas Homeschool Sports Chargers at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Marshall Christian Academy had to suffer through a 90-63 loss at the hands of Liberty-Eylau. While losing is never fun, the Guardians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1084th, while the Leopards are ranked 127th).

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, East Texas Homeschool Sports' good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Hawkins by a score of 67-64. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (58), the Chargers still had to take the loss.

Marshall Christian Academy will have to contain Will Mason as he made an impact in East Texas Homeschool Sports' last game. He dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Mason's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Mason, who posted 16 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, East Texas Homeschool Sports smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Marshall Christian Academy dropped their record down to 5-8 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for East Texas Homeschool Sports, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.

Everything went Marshall Christian Academy's way against East Texas Homeschool Sports in their previous meeting back in February, as Marshall Christian Academy made off with a 69-46 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Mason, who went 11 of 19 on his way to 23 points along with seven boards and five steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Marshall Christian Academy still be able to contain Mason? There's only one way to find out.
