Softball Recap: Newport Takes a Loss

After flying high against Pleasant Hill last Saturday, Newport came back down to earth. The Cubs came up short against the Valley Catholic Valiants on Friday, falling 10-4.

Ivy Ruddiman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzie Stark, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Newport's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Valley Catholic, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Looking ahead, Newport will host Stayton at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Valley Catholic, they will venture away from home to challenge Pleasant Hill at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
