The Marion Giants will take on the Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Marion has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 1st.
Kokomo hit Marion with a four-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Giants came up short against the Wildkats, falling 11-1.
Marion saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zionna Cole, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Lafayette Jefferson made sure to put some runs up on the board against Anderson on Saturday. The Bronchos were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Indians. The result was nothing new for the Bronchos, who have now won seven matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Sayler Teal made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lafayette Jefferson got a massive performance out of Rilee Clifton, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Clifton has posted since back in April. Maya Thomas was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Lafayette Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Lafayette Jefferson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Marion, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-16.
Marion suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Lafayette Jefferson when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Can the Giants avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
