Basketball Recap: Lordsburg Comes Up Short

Lordsburg lost against Silver back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Lordsburg Mavericks were outmatched by the Silver Fighting Colts and fell 76-49. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Fighting Colts are ranked 27th).

When it comes to explaining why Lordsburg lost, don't look at Zeke De La O. Despite the final result, he posted 32 points. That was a full 65.3% of Lordsburg's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Victor Valdez was another key player, putting up six points and seven rebounds.

Lordsburg's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-10. As for Silver, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lordsburg will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Animas at 7:30 p.m. on January 21st. As for Silver, they will head out to take on Cobre at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cobre will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Silver surely won't give up without a fight.
