Baseball Recap: Galesburg's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Two

Galesburg lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Bloomington, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Silver Streaks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Purple Raiders a 10-0 shutout on Friday. With that victory, the Silver Streaks brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Alex Ritchie looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Galesburg is 8-3 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-16 otherwise.

At the plate, Brandon Bruington was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Galesburg: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 11-19 otherwise. Another player making a difference was TJ Heatherly, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Galesburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Galesburg and bumps their season record up to 16-19. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Bloomington, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 18-15.

As of now, neither Galesburg nor the Purple Raiders have any future games scheduled.
