Baseball Recap: Jenkins Takes a Loss

Jenkins extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-13 in the process. They came up short against the Castlewood Blue Devils, falling 15-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.

As for Castlewood, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-6. The game marked their most dominant victory of the season.

For Castlewood's part, Jasper Salyers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Salyers has become a key player for Castlewood: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 4-5 otherwise. Salyers was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brayden Houchins was incredible, going 2-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Castlewood's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Aden Phillips, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jenkins will host Mingo Central at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Castlewood, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against J.I. Burton at 5:00 p.m.
