Baseball Recap: Lowry Triumphs

Lowry proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 15) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 win over the Dayton Dust Devils. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-2 on Thursday.

Angus Boyles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off two hits. He has become a key player for Lowry: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-12 otherwise. Boyles was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gabe Lange and Matthew Casalez did most of the damage at the plate: Lange went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Casalez went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Lange is becoming a predictor of Lowry's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 9-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Erick Valencia, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Lowry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Lowry's record is now 12-13. As for Dayton, their loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-14.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Dust Devils beat Lowry by a score of 7-5 later that day.
