Preview: Leon Cougars vs. Garrison Bulldogs
The Leon Cougars will face off against the Garrison Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Leon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 836th, while Garrison is ranked 260th).
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Leon on the road against Normangee as the team secured a 40-7 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Leon.
Leon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brock Bumpurs out in front who threw for 265 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes. Cooper Stevens was another key contributor, picking up 190 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, Garrison's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 35-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of Timpson. Garrison has struggled against Timpson recently, as their match on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Garrison's loss came about despite a quality game from Brayden Davidson, who threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Javien Black, who rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.1 yards per carry.
Leon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Garrison, their loss dropped their record down to 9-1.
