Softball Recap: Riverside Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Riverside ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Shenango Wildcats, sneaking past 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since May 14, 2024.

Ayla Sterner spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.

On the hitting side, Riverside saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danny Rosenberger, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base was Rosenberger's first of the season.

Riverside has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Shenango, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside will face off against Neshannock at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Shenango, they will challenge New Brighton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lions will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
