Two dominant signal callers in Eric Cisneros and Colt Fagan are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Palmer Bulldogs will host the Whitesboro Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, Palmer ended up a good deal behind Pottsboro and lost 57-43. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Palmer saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cisneros rushed for 229 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 248 yards on 12 of 27 attempts. 112 of Cisneros' passing yards were hauled in by Kennen Corey.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whitesboro). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Madison 62-33. Given the Bearcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 427th, while the Trojans are ranked 927th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Whitesboro's win came from a few key players Palmer will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mason Scarbrough, who picked up 60 receiving yards and one TD, and also punched in one score on the ground. That's the most receiving yards he has posted since back in August of 2024.
Whitesboro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 351 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive contests.
Whitesboro's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Palmer, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Palmer has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 255 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Whitesboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 202.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Palmer was able to grind out a solid win over Whitesboro in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 41-33. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Fagan, who rushed for 47 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 213 yards and one TD. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Bulldogs still be able to contain Fagan? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
