Football Recap: Ozona Starts Season with Win on the Road

Ozona had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They breezed past the McCamey Badgers to the tune of 65-0. That's more bragging rights for the Lions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Christian Villarreal was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 371 yards and seven scores while picking up 20.6 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 60 yards. Another player making a difference was Michael Preddy, who rushed for 75 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ozona was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 472 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2024.

Ozona's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Christian Treto, Alex Guerra, and Ryan Ramos, who each picked up one sack apiece. Leo Blanco got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ozona will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Eldorado at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for McCamey, they will take on Colorado at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
