Baseball Recap: Napoleon Comes Up Short

Napoleon had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-16 to make it 13. They came up short against the Whitmer Panthers, falling 7-0. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Napoleon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Koppenhofer, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Whitmer, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games.

On Whitmer's side, Logan Spain looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Spain a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

At the plate, Whitmer let Rudy Handy and Drew Brindley run wild. Handy went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Brindley got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most RBI Handy has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Leroux, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Napoleon will head out on the road to square off against Ross at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Whitmer, they will head out to challenge Springfield at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
