Softball Recap: Wheaton North Comes Up Short

Wheaton North extended their losing streak to 12 on Monday, dropping them down to 6-18. They came up short against the St. Charles East Fighting Saints, falling 10-0. Falcons fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Fighting Saints since Monday.

As for St. Charles East, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games.

For St. Charles East's part, Hannah Wulf tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Wulf has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ari Bigda was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last ten games. Another player making a difference was Brynn Maple, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and four RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: St. Charles East beat Wheaton North by a score of 8-2 on Tuesday.
