Basketball Recap: Evan Lanier's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Burroughs over Hoover

Burroughs was the 67-63 winner over Hoover when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Burroughs Bears took a 55-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hoover Tornados on Friday.

Burroughs lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Evan Lanier, who posted ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That's the most points Lanier has posted since back in November of 2024. Evan Baker was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Burroughs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Burroughs has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Hoover, they pushed their record up to 11-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Burroughs has already played their next game, a 66-25 defeat against El Camino Real on the 18th. Hoover has also already played their next match (against Arcadia), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
